IntelliJ plugin

Achievements for IntelliJ

An IntelliJ plugin that hands out achievements for habits every developer has and nobody counts: opening a file untouched for two years, keeping a hundred tabs open, closing them all in one click. Two more stay secret until somebody finds them.

KotlinIntelliJ

Where it started

The idea is borrowed from Sublime Text, where the Achievement package rewards you for using the editor. This brings the same idea to the IntelliJ Platform.

What it counts

Open a file that has not changed in version control for over two years and you are a Code Necromancer. Keep ten, twenty-five, fifty or a hundred tabs open at once for Tab Avalanche, then close them with a single click for Clean Sweep. A file of a thousand lines or more earns Millennium File, and File Voyager counts how many different file types you have opened, from five up to a hundred. Two more achievements are secret: they show up as question marks until somebody finds them.

Progress comes from listening to the editor - which files open, how many tabs are up, which action just closed them - and each unlock raises a notification. Tools, Achievements opens the full list: an overall progress bar, progress on every tiered achievement, and a log of when each step was unlocked, all updating live while the list is open.

It needs nothing beyond the IntelliJ Platform itself, so it runs in any JetBrains IDE from 2024.2 onward. Written in Kotlin and released under the BSD 3-Clause licence.
